Here at Canterbury Christ Church University Chaplaincy, we prioritise facilitating worship that is comfortable and meaningful to you, and we believe in creating an inclusive environment for worship and reflection. We offer worship in our times of bible study and reflection, holy communion, and joining our voices together in songs of praise.
Holy Communion
Currently running on a Wednesday late afternoon at 4:30pm, we meet together to celebrate the presence of God in our lives and give thanks. This is our more liturgical, traditional service in which a fixed liturgy can be participated in through booklets which will be available for use. An ordained minister will lead us through the liturgy and then consecrate the bread and wine, presenting it as the body and blood of Jesus Christ in memory of his sacrifice.
A wide range of theological perspectives exist about “Holy Communion,” “Mass,” or “Eucharist.” If you believe in the Christian Faith, and it would be your tradition to receive the bread and wine in your own church, then we warmly invite you to partake. Otherwise, you are more than welcome to receive a blessing.
Whether your own theological view is Transubstantiation, Consubstantiation or that Holy Communion provides only a symbol of Christ’s sacrifice, we believe that all Christians should be welcome at the altar, to receive, give thanks, and remember everything God has done for us. (1 Corinthians 11:17-34).
Sung Worship
We aim to have a healthy balance of contemporary Christian music from a variety of artists with more traditional Anglican Hymns (sometimes with a modern interpretation). We choose songs that glorify God, celebrate Jesus Christ and express the hope and joy of the Christian Faith. Songs are selected that can be engaged by people from a range of Christian traditions and perspectives, and which aim towards inclusion, openness and shared worship.
We also welcome song requests, so please speak to one of the chaplains if there is a hymn or worship song you would like to hear.
Music forms part of our main service Sing Pray Eat, every Thursday in Chapel from 12-2pm.
“O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous works among all the peoples.” Psalm 96:1-3.
