‘A long way from Galilee’ is an Easter themed album, designed to accompany the listener from Maundy Thursday through to Easter Sunday. Following the release of ‘Prince of Peace’ at Christmas, Chaplaincy CCCU have written, recorded and produced an EP using the gifts of our staff and students to help the wider church and community reflect on the themes of Holy Week and Easter and the triumph of God’s love over death. It is our vision that these songs could be used for personal prayer and reflection, in groups or in church services.

There are four songs on the album, one for each day of the Triduum plus Easter Sunday, to help aid reflection, discussion and prayer. ‘Garden Prayers’ focuses on the events of Maundy Thursday, narrowing in on the moment Jesus is in the Garden of Gethsemane praying, immediately before He is betrayed. ‘Peter (a long way from Galilee)’ asks Peter about his denial of Jesus, and how he could betray his friend in light of all that he had been through and experienced, but ends remembering that like Peter, we all find mercy and forgiveness in God’s boundless grace, no matter what we have done. ‘Holy Saturday’ draws on the tension of the space between what has happened and what is to come, both in reflection of the first Easter and each subsequent Easter. The EP finishes with ‘Spoiler Alert’, celebrating the Good News of Easter Day and speaking through the events of Holy Week that it is not the end of the story for God’s creation.

The EP is intended as a gift to the wider church and community and so is available to stream for free on several streaming services. We would like to thank our staff and students involved in this project for so freely and enthusiastically sharing their times talents with us.

‘A long way from Galilee’ is now available to stream on all major platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
